KJRGGDC, Mejia [erstwhile Government General Degree College at Mejia (Gopalpur)] was established in the year of 2015, by the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, along with twenty other new Government General Degree Colleges in the state. The College began its journey with the noble vision of propagating quality Higher Education. Initially the college was affiliated to the University of Burdwan. However, since 2017, it is affiliated to the Bankura University and the students are being taught in the three year six-semester Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The College offers the undergraduate courses in all the three basic disciplines- Arts, Science, and Commerce with five subjects as B.A. Honours (Bengali, English, History, Philosophy and Economics) and one subject each in B.Sc. Honours (Geology) and B.Com Honours (Accountancy). It is the only institution under the Bankura University, which offers Geology as an Honours subject. All the faculties of this college, apart from their normal duties, are involved in different research activities to improve their own knowledge and academic excellence in accordance with the spirit of higher education. They are always keen to maintain the standard education as well as holding up to the administrative set up of the college. The college is always involved in different community activities such as gender sensitization programme, literacy drive, safe drive-save life and so on for the betterment of society. In Swami Vivekananda’s words ‘Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man’ – our college always strives to fulfil this objective and the faculty members are devoted to the holistic development of the students so as to bring about this. Most of the office work of the college is executed with the use of computers with a view to improve efficiency and reduce the use of papers to save the environment. In keeping with the growing demands of modern education, the college has increased not only in the number of students but also in infrastructural developments such as building, library, laboratory, computer, internet, smart classroom and other facilities. The college Library is not very large but rich with many valuable books. All the departments, library and college office are interconnected through Local Area Network. Laboratories of science departments are well equipped. The new introduction of Geology Museum and Computer Laboratory in this college would definitely add to the quality and standard for the study of higher education. The college organizes parents-teachers-students meet to solve different academic and non-academic problems of the students. Kabi Jagadram Roy Government General Degree College nurtures the vision of excellence through continuous modernization of the teaching-learning process and relentless pursuits of other extra-curricular activities. With the generous support of the faculty members, office staff and other non-teaching staff, unbound enthusiasm of the students, administrative and financial assistance from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal and constant cooperation from all the stakeholders, the college aspires to emerge as one of the important institutions of higher education in the years to come.
